Angel Oak is a Southern Live Oak, located on Johns Island, Charleston, SC. The tree is 65 feet high with a circumference of 25.5 feet, shading an area of 17,000 square feet. It is considered to be the largest Live Oak Tree east of the Mississippi and estimated to be 300 to 400 years old.
This famous tree received its name from the pioneering family who used to own the land, and whose last name was Angel. She is a very popular site, located in a public park and according to the website dedicated to her, receiving over 400,000 visitors a year.
