London Grove Oak Tree

London Grove Friends Meeting, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania dates back to 1682. Its members were among the early settlers of Penn’s Woods. These pioneers for religious freedom gathered to worship together, building their first Meetinghouse in 1704. The London Grove Oak Tree grew at the Meetinghouse, becoming a comforting, protective presence over the years. In 1969 it was declared Pennsylvania’s Champion White Oak. The tree fell gracefully to the ground on a warm sunny morning – September 19, 2023. Here are a few commemorative photos.
