My summer treat for my friends: this talented tree being’s portrait study of the spirit of a great conductor – 20% off retail on all variations, from cards to metal prints – throughout August 31, 2023.
This photo has a story to tell, and it’s one a music lover will – love. This is a tree being sculpture of Henry Kimball Hadley, the first conductor of the Tanglewood Music Festival, MA. He and the Music Center’s main benefactor Gertrude Smith would sit beneath this pine tree who lives at the edge of the outdoor central stage area. They would plan out the many details that would turn a private estate into a premier music venue. The tree being was so enamored of their dream that he carved their images into his trunk. My summer treat – the portrait study of – The Maestro.
Here is a collage of the portraits the tree being crafted, and a long view of the branch on which the conductor image resides.
