Two Grandmothers Have a Talk

by | Elders & Councils

Atala ToyHere I am visiting with Grandmother. Two wise old crones having a chat!

Grandmother is a mesquite tree and lives at Signal Hill, an ancient Hohokam site with many petroglyphs, Tucson, Arizona.

The site has been occupied for centuries and was probably used for ceremonies as well as a military signal site, being the highest location for many miles around.

Grandmother trees are nourishing, protective, all-encompassing. They often have the detached good humor that comes with wise old age. This grandmother contains inside herself images of many of the beings she protects. They are of the dark and the light sides of creation.

This photo shows the other side of Grandmother, and one of the intricate dioramas who exist in her trunk and branches.
